I spend months and months buying items from Sally's and other beauty supply and when a friend told me about I decided to try it. Its wonderful!!! The iron gets hot enough to give you that smooth straight look and you don't have to use it daily. Once/week is good. Any I definately recommend it, it has save me ALOt of money. I don't have to go to the hair dresser anymore. I can't believe I'm taking the time to write this, but I wanted to do this to help someone else.

Amika Hair Iron Holder (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I like the concept of this flat iron holder. It keeps the hot iron off of my makeup vanity. My only problem is that the suction cups on the bottom do not adhere well to the varnished wood surface of my vanity. I'm sure this holder would work great on a glass or ceramic-type surface.
Update, I recently purchased the Amika Clipless Curling Iron and it won't stay in this holder. I think that the curling iron is too bottom-heavy, so it tips the holder over. And since the suction does not work on wood, everything kept falling over. Good luck with yours...

(More customer reviews)This flat iron is a good quality product, especially for the Amazon price, which is much less than FHI's website. I liked how it is comfortable to hold (compared to the Hana elite iron I tried before) and the wider plates work well since I have extremely thick, long curly hair. I had an FHI iron that I purchased in 2004 that was kind of noisy -it would creak when I pressed the plates together- but they seem to have solved this problem with the new platform series. One thing that confused me is how the instruction book says it works best on damp, towel-dried hair, but I did not find this claim to be true. If my hair wasn't completely dry, it just took longer to straighten, having to go over each section many more times. I even tried it on my niece who had very fine, thin hair, and it didn't work well on her hair when wet either. It may work better when used with the FHI hot sauce, but I just used it with biosilk and John Frieda Frizz serum. Another thing I noticed it that it doesn't seem to stay at 450 degrees for long while straightening. The temperature seems to drop a little while your hair is going through the plates, but then if set down for as minute or so, the red light will start bliking again to show it reached the desired temp. My hair never seems to stay straight for long, but that may just be my hair and the high humidity levels in Florida. Overall, I would recommend this product. Before purchasing, I read many reviews and ordered a Hana elite 1.5" from another online store, because I was curious to try a new brand, but after being disappointed and wasting $14 in return shipping, I got this FHI and I am happy with the results.

(More customer reviews)I like it, a good adition to my styling tools. The crimps are small & tight on the hair. It's a very dramatic look, i think ill use it for Halloween or night clubs. I was looking more for bigger size crimps on my hair so I'll keep looking for a crimper that does bigger size crimps. Other than that, it heats up quick & crimps hair fast.

(More customer reviews)Even at it's highest temp I would have to run this iron through my hair three to four times so it made fixing my hair take longer, second it needs an on off switch that is placed on the inside of the iron on this iron the controls or on the outside where your hands hold the iron and are digital so every time you squeeze the flat iron you either make the temp go down or turn it off it is very frustrating.

I am an avid beauty product customer, who does their research before buying products and this has been my best purchase by far. This curling iron was inexpensive and made my dry, bleached, damaged hair turn to smooth, silky, touchable locks. Another great feature of this product is how quickly it heats up, it is so quick that I can turn the curling iron on and start using it. I haven't experienced anything negative with this product. When I researched this product prior to purchase, I found out that the barrel of the curling iron is infused with tourmaline and lava ceramics that help provide the hair with superior conditioning. On the website it includes the following information about tourmaline and lava ceramic technology; "Lava is molten rock expelled during volcanic eruptions. In it's liquid form lava can reach extreme high temperatures; typically from 700º C to 1200ºC. We discovered that adding lava stone nano particles to our ceramic surface provided increased even heat distribution and a remarkably hard, smooth styling surface that promotes anti-bacterial properties. When combined with Tourmaline, a precious gemstone and natural source of negative ions, infrared heat is further maximized while ionic conditioning nourishes and protects hair's natural luster."

Farouk CHI Turbo Regular Ceramic Flat Iron Hair Straightener Review

(More customer reviews)I was suspect of the need for "ceramic ions" and "far infrared technology", but this iron was highly recommended by salon personnel, so I decided to dish out the money and try it. You don't need to believe the hype to realize that this is a top quality product. This was a case of "you get what you pay for"! It is lightweight and ergonomic, heats up almost immediately, has a slider bar for varying heat from 176-356F (80-180C), and velvety felt that protects you from burns (also allows me to get closer to my ears and scalp without getting burned). The latter feature is worth the money to me alone, and the the ceramic feels much gentler to my hair (I have baby fine hair very prone to breakage). Two other things to keep in mind when choosing a straightener:
1) size matters - smaller size is better - it's more maneuverable, and doing smaller sections at a time will produce better results. for superfine hair, I recommend the 0.7" (mistakenly advertised as 0.07")
2) not all ceramic is created equal - there are solid ceramic plates or plates COATED with ceramic that are cheaper. the ceramic layer on the coated plates can peel off and is supposedly damaging to your hair (not to mention your product is ruined).
so yes, this iron is more expensive, but hopefully it will last for years of top-notch straightening.
