(More customer reviews)Bought this iron to see if I could extend the life of my perm (today would have been 8 weeks). After washing, conditioning, setting, wrapping, and drying (under the hooded dryer), I put a little bit of olive oil in my hair and started straightening my hair using this iron. Great results. Hair was very smooth at the root...my rat-tail comb went through my hair SO easily. At first I was straightening my hair with no product before each pass of the iron. I found that using a little oil sheen or oil right before each pass seems to make the hair a little straighter at the root. I could easily see this being a modern-day-do-it-yourself pressing comb...because it gets close enough to the scalp for the heat to be effective, but far enough away not to burn yourself. After straightening all of my hair, I went back over the front edges of my hair with the iron. Fantastic results. I would not recommend that anyone use this iron with the intention of 'pulling' hair through the comb with each pass. What worked for me is starting from the bottom up (teeth facing up), waiting a few seconds, then very slightly, gently pulling the comb through the root. I followed this by taking the same piece of hair and doing the same gesture from the top down a few times.
Another thing to note is that this tool will only straighten your roots. I tried a few times to give my hair some 'shape' on the ends with this iron, but that didn't happen. So, it is very likely that you will have to use another flat iron or curling iron to shape the ends (I recommend the Jilbere porcelain ceramic series...I have 1 other flat iron and 2 other curling irons by Jilbere and I love these tools. 4+ years of usage and they still work great).
So this root iron is yet another great item by Jilbere (I am a huge fan of this line, as you can see). The only reason why I rate this with 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish there were a way to remove the combs to clean the (underside) barrel and put them back in place. But no complaints. Great purchase. Will try to go 4 more weeks (at least) without a relaxer using this iron.
