(More customer reviews)Several years ago I started out using a cheap drugstore flat iron for my thick wavy hair. After talking to my stylist and my friends I got a 1½" Sedu and a 1" Solia flat iron for my long hair, and then my inverted bob (Posh Spice). They're pricey but you get what you pay for. I got nice SILKY STRAIGHT hair with those brands. Now with my boy haircut (Demi Moore in Ghost) I needed a narrower flat iron. After much research I finally bought this Farouk ½" mini. It's about 10 inches long and 1½ inch at its widest point.
Pros: narrow for short hair or bangs, quick heating with display light, adjustable temperature (140º - 400º), smooth ceramic surface means no pulling or catching, swivel cord, the tip stays cool enough so I can handle it, the two sides compress for better holding if I want to hold the ends and the price.
Cons: they sell out quickly, the directions are minimal. FYI - The Sedu and Solia manuals suggest around 340 - 350° for normal hair texture, less for bleached, damaged, fine hair and above that (370°) for coarse, thick, ethnic or otherwise resistant hair.
Get a good haircut, use a deep moisturizer once a week and you'll be good to go for a great price! Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)I am a stylist. This iron gets extremely hot which is great for styling. However I am on my 4th volumizing iron because the plastic casing cannot withstand the heat and the blades come apart over a time. I have tried different epoxies to try and salvage the iron, but once reheated the residue bleeds onto the hair. So I just keep buying new ones. I love the results which cannot be simulated with a flat or curling iron.

(More customer reviews)You know that it isn't going to be like the full size counterparts, seeing as it is travel sized AND so much cheaper, so my expectations for it were right in sync. The flat iron takes a bit longer to heat up, and a little of getting used to if your used to a full size CHI, but it works wonderfully! Sometimes I do the rotate thing to make it curl, and I think it looks better on this one than the full sized one. The hair dryer packs a mean punch for something so small, and it dries my hair in the same amount of time as a full size, but its not as hot so I actually like it better. The sizes are great for travel or gym locker-room use, and I highly recommend them. And they also come with the travel pack and CHI products! Definitely a steal. I can fit my shampoo, conditioner and styling products and comb in the pockets for the gym (but I put my shampoo and conditioner in travel bottles to save room), so it's the perfect travel accessory. I purchased this one THROUGH amazon, not a store on amazon, and I ordered it on a Friday and received it Monday MORNING even though they said 2-3 business days. I was very impressed with both the product and Amazon.

(More customer reviews)I have wavy hair... not super curly or thick, but not straight either, so I don't have a difficult time finding straightening irons that work, but I wanted one that would leave my hair shiny and smooth, and do it quickly, so I started looking at irons that were a bit more expensive than my usual 25 dollar range. I came across a review for this on another site and decided to try it. It straightens my hair quickly, and does leave it very shiny and smooth. The only reason I didn't give it a five was that it claims that it locks out humidity, and for the most part it does, but when humidity here is bad and I walk for a 10-15 minutes, I find my hair not as straight and as smooth as when I left. Overall I would recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)I am by no means a hairstyling guru, but this product is easy and comfortable to use. It is quite large in size, complete with a comfort grip handle, so I don't expect those who travel lightly like I do to be packing it along for excursions. The temperature control is a definite asset, and ranges from 200-400 F. I typically set my iron to 400 F, a temperature reached in about two to three minutes -- no complaints! The tool maintains its heat evenly so that curls are uniform. I haven't encountered any problems with heat damage to my hair, either, although I do not curl my hair more than twice weekly. The one problem I do face when using this CHI curling iron is that the results do not last terribly long -- usually not more than six to eight hours (and consequently not overnight). I have thick, moderately straight hair that falls a few inches below the shoulder. This iron may in fact be better for someone with longer hair. If I were to complete this transaction over again, I would have bought the 1" iron because the large diameter of the 1 1/2" curling iron does not create many ringlets due to the fact that my hair is not very long (i.e. at or below my shoulder blades). I would certainly recommend this product to others, however, because of its ease, heat retention, and (I hope) durability.
