(More customer reviews)I have the most unruly combination of wavy and straight hair. And, yes, I have that embarrassing crease near the crown of my head, too. I have tried every product under the sun, including flattening irons, water-heated steamers and curling irons, to give it that smooth straight softness you see in the magazines but nothing seemed to ever totally work. Before buying this straightener, I was using a combination of comb-brush-type dryers and thick curling irons to tame my thick head of hair. What a battle!
But, now my suffering is over. What I love about this straightener is that it works almost as a brush, dryer and straightener in one. The other reviewer commented that the pins hurt her head. I consider those pins to be a brush, besides; you almost have to have pins so the steam can penetrate all of the strands of hair. I can handle it and my head of hair is usually full of tangles. What I do is blow dry my hair until it's almost completely dry, brush my hair really well, work the straightener through my hair, and BAM - perfectly straight smooth hair. My only complaint is that I wish I would have discovered this straightener a long time ago...
Update 1/15/08:
After accidentally breaking this one, I couldn't wait to purchase another one. Upon opening my new Conair straightener, I was saddened to find they have remade the original design and have now removed the two sets of straightening pins. Darn! While I still find this straightener great, I don't find it quite as effective without the two rows of pins to really permeate my hair...

(More customer reviews)Before I tell about the problems I've had with this straightener, I need to mention that I absolutely LOVE the design. The curved plates are awesome for giving volume at the roots and flipping my layers out or under. It makes (well, made) my thick, wavy, frizzy hair extremely straight and shiny, and the price is nice and low.
However, I guess you get what you pay for when quality is concerned. The "ceramic technology" they spout on the package simply means the plates are ceramic *coated*, not solid ceramic. Fine with me, except about a month after I purchased it, the coating was already wearing away on the plates! I only use it about three or four times a week, so it's not like I was putting unusual stress on it. I've continued to use it for the last year and a half, however, and haven't had any additional problems until recently. There seems to be something wrong with the heating mechanism now, because I went to use it the other day, and when I touched it to my hair, it literally sizzled and singed the section I had in it on contact! Now I have this ugly frizzy spot right next to my face that I am just praying will grow out quickly. I used it a couple times after that, testing on my ends before putting it through my hair (getting a haircut soon, so no big loss if they singe), and have had the same thing happen about 25% of the time. I've since been wearing my hair in a ponytail and am shopping for a new flat iron (with SOLID ceramic plates!).
I don't know if anyone else has had these issues, but it really does make me sad that mine started falling apart so early on, because the design really is great. Too bad :(

Hot Tools Styling Iron Cleaner 4 fl. oz. 1155 Review

(More customer reviews)I tried one other cleaner for flat irons and curling irons, but it smelled nasty! And what was worse, was that it left my 'Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron' stinky. Every time it heated up, it would smell quiet bad. I still used it, but it was annoying. Yuck.
This stuff is great! It smells a bit, but the smell does not linger in the air or on the tool. Also, I hadn't cleaned my iron for 2 years, and this stuff took any build up right off. I sort of -forgot- I had sprayed it on. lol I remembered 30 minutes later, and wiped the cleaner off with a damp rag, as it says. I don't think it even damaged the iron! I also used it to clean the new 1 1/2" Hot tools iron I got.
Anyway, this shizz WORKS, and if you are considering cleaners for your curling iron/flat iron, get this! :)
My only complaint is brought about by my anal-ness. The label on the bottle came with bits of the ink rubbed off, as if it had been handled a lot. But the bottle was full, unopened.

(More customer reviews)I have very dry, thick, curly hair and a lot of volume too. Every few months I have to relax my curl in order to keep it under control. I also live in the tropics where heat and a lot of humidity don't exactly help my hair remain frizz free. I was very skeptical when I first bought this product because I had tried many hair straighteners and all had given me poor results. Thank goodness that I was finally proven wrong! This product definitely does what it says it will do and is very affordable in comparison to other products on the market. I flatten my hair after I blow dry it and I have finally been able to tame my wild hair into soft, smooth, silky, straight hair. I have been getting plently of compliments but most importantly, I feel happy with my hair! I have recommended this product to friends and family and they have also acheived wonderful results. I recommend that you buy a deep conditioning treatment (Redken Heavy Cream) and leave it in your for 15 minutes with a self warming cap, rinse out and apply a heat protectant on your hair (Redken Heat Glide) before the process. Your hair will be fabulous!
